Personal laser safety equipment (PPE): Laser safety goggles

Personal laser safety equipment is not an option, but a necessity, especially to protect the eyes from the dangers of laser beams.

What does this mean for the use of hand-held laser welders, which are in laser class 4? The answer is easy, if you are aware of the risks and, as a company, ensure the personal laser protection of your users!

In today's world, where technology is moving ever faster and innovations are developing just as quickly, we are increasingly encountering laser beams, particularly in metalworking. This has many advantages over conventional production methods, allowing us to work faster, cleaner and more efficiently, especially when working with thin materials. However, it is important to be aware of the dangers that lasers can pose, especially to the eyes. And this is where personal laser safety equipment comes into play.

Special glasses offer crucial protection against the effects of laser beams. They block dangerous wavelengths and thus prevent potential eye damage. When purchasing such goggles, it is important to pay attention to quality and certification. Only tested products offer the necessary protection and should be classified and certified as such by qualified organisations.

The Bavarian Laser Centre (BLZ), for example, is one such institution and has been operating a test laboratory for laser safety products for over twenty years. Since its foundation, many thousands of laser exposure tests have been carried out in this laboratory, including on laser safety eyewear. The BLZ goes even further, because in addition to certification tests, new materials are also tested during development in order to further optimise the protective effect of the products.

The BLZ therefore plays an important and competent role for manufacturers of personal laser safety equipment. With products tested in this way, users make targeted investments in PPE, are on the safe side and are ideally equipped for daily use.
